Emma McKenna, Full Out (The Kids in Mrs. Z's Class #1)
The Kids in Mrs. Z’s Class #1: Emma McKenna, Full Out by Kate Messner is a delightful new chapter book that had us both hooked! As fans of Messner’s Over and Under picture book series, we were excited to dive into this book for middle-grade readers.

Julianne (age 8): I really liked Emma. I think she might have ADHD like me. I loved all the quirky details about her, like her calendar celebrating hilarious holidays like “National Respect Elephant Day” and “Eat An Extra Dessert Day.” She has such a great sense of humor! I also loved her dog named Bongo. The story of her falling out with her former best friend Lucy over a talent show audition was really sad.

Aaron (age 11): From the gummy worm incident onward (no spoilers!), I was completely hooked. This book has the perfect blend of surprising, laugh-out-loud moments and more serious parts, such as Emma’s struggle to make friends after transferring schools. Kids who like books with plot twists and adventures will be riveted by Emma.

We both give this book two enthusiastic thumbs up! A wonderful introduction to a new series!
