A guide to learning the art of drawing manga–step by easy step (Collector’s Series)
Manga is fun to read, and if you want to draw it too, this book gives you a place to start. It’s a good book, because it gives you instructions, but the instructions aren’t spectacular. It tells you to add one thing and then another and suddenly you are supposed to have a finished product, but it doesn’t tell you how you are supposed to get those things made, and it doesn’t come together quite so easily. It has good tips for different elements that could be included in a Manga drawing, like hair or eyes or the body, but it doesn’t exactly show you how to put them all together. It does have templates in the back that you can trace, to practice on, which are helpful so you don’t have to just repeat drawing the whole thing over and over if you just want to practice one element. It teaches you how to draw things like action poses, scenes and backgrounds. You also learn the meaning behind certain expressions or common noises; for example, a black shadow over the face means someone is terrified, or if you wanted to express a kiss, you would write a ‘chu’.
